01 Entry categories
Entry requirements for Guatemala depend on the nationality of the passport you travel on. The Guatemalan Migration Institute (Instituto Guatemalteco de Migración) sorts countries into three categories.
No visa required to enter Guatemala
Holders of these passports enter without a prior visa.
Examples United States, Canada, Mexico, Spain, France, Germany, Italy, United Kingdom, Japan, South Korea, Australia, Costa Rica, Panama, Colombia, Dominican Republic
Consular visa required
Exempt if you hold a valid visa for the United States, Canada, Mexico or the Schengen area.
Examples Bolivia, Belarus, Bhutan, Benin, Azerbaijan
Consulted visa required
The visa is issued with prior authorisation from the Guatemalan Migration Institute, so it is worth starting the process well in advance.
Examples Afghanistan, Albania, Algeria, Armenia, Bangladesh, China, North Korea, Cuba, Congo, Eritrea
02 Traveller documentation
Before travelling, make sure you have:
- A passport valid for your whole stay.
- The visa corresponding to your category, where one applies.
- Any additional document requested by the airline or the immigration authority.
Carrying the required documentation is the customer’s responsibility, per the “Customer responsibilities” section of our Cancellation & Refund Policy.
03 Official information
